Express Yourself Project Cafe

Express Yourself: Carla Woodburn hosts 10 poets, the theme of the evening is poetry involving “Consumer Market.” FREE
Glasgow and District Burns Association
ii) Friday 28 September 7pm Renfield St Stephen’s Church Bath Street Glasgow
A concert run by the Glasgow and District Burns Association: it will feature young people reciting Burns and other poets using the languages of Scotland. Also on the programme will be three students from St Petersburg who won the Robert Burns World Federation, Knowledge of Scotland competition organised by the St Petersburg Forum.

Balloch – Alexandria Writers

This local event was set up to allow local writers to have a more accessible venue to showcase their work. First Monday of the month. All genres welcome. Five minute slots bookable on the night from 06.15pm. Readings 7pm – 9.15pm.

Jim Carruth, the Glasgow Makar, will be relaunching his acclaimed verse novel Killochries now republished by Polygon. FREE event. Book at Place
vii) Thursday 4 October NATIONAL POETRY DAY 2.30-6pm GoMA Library Queen Street Glasgow
The Federation of Writers (Scotland) usual open mic event on National Poetry Day. The reading slots are now fully booked but there may be cancellations on the day. With current Makar Marjorie Lotfi Gill is sadly not able to be with us so former Makars Anne Connolly and A C Clarke will be reading and last year’s Makar Andy Jackson will read the Patchwork Poem.

Hot on the heels of the FWS at GoMA, Mirrorball celebrates National Poetry Day with readings from W S Graham and Guillaume Apollinaire on the anniversaries of these poets.

Poetry Café, a performance opportunity organized by FWS member John Coutts. Enjoy a ride on the POETRY ROUNDABOUT. Read, recite, and discuss or just listen and enjoy as the poems go round. PLUS coffee and cakes.
Admission free – a donation of £3 to the funds of ‘The Smith’ is suggested.

Glasgoes Poetic at Mansion House
xii) Saturday 13th October, 1pm – 3pm Tollcross Mansion House 601 -641 Tollcross Road Glasgow G32 8TF
Derek Read is thinking of holding an event for Glasgoes Poetic at the Mansion House in Tollcross Park. It will be a revival of the old Bards in the Park and will be encouraging performances of poetry, music and short pieces of prose.
With Thriving Survivors a charity which supports victims of trauma with training and personal development opportunities aimed at increasing confidence, self-awareness and self-esteem. The space is a large lounge in the Mansion House – a very atmospheric place which has a lot of potential which Thriving Survivors hope to develop as a community cafe. We will provide teas, coffees etc – free entrance- donations welcome.
Hopint that this event will be the start of regular events at the Mansion House in Tollcross Park- a park prized by generations of East Enders and a building full of memories for many.
