Birds of Passage
17 – 23 May, 2019
A gripping tale of narcos set among Colombia’s Wayúu people, Birds of Passage spans three decades of a family pushed to the brink by the drug trade. Cristina Gallego and Ciro Guerra follow up their Oscar-nominated Embrace of the Serpent with an unusually clear-eyed and empathetic depiction of indigenous peoples and the impact of outside forces upon them.
Presented in partnership with Reclaim The Frame, a BFI-backed project run by Birds’ Eye View, a mission to bring ever-greater audiences to films by women, and to build a more balanced film future that offers cinema fans wider perspectives on the world.
The Wed 22 May screening (17.30) will be followed by a Q&A with Dr Marîa Antonia Velez Serna – Lecturer in Communications, Media and Culture at Stirling University, Dr Maria Fotopoulou – Lecturer in Criminology & Sociology at Stirling University, hosted by writer and film critic Kate Muir.
