Based on the infamous 1892 axe murder of the Borden family in Fall River, Massachusetts, this layered, shocking drama creates a portrait of Lizzie Borden for the modern day. Lizzie (Chloë Sevigny) lives a repressed existence, attempting to resist the iron rule of her authoritarian father. When new housemaid Bridget Sullivan (Kristen Stewart) comes to work at the Borden house, Lizzie finds in her a friend and confidante. But as secret romance blossoms, familial tensions continue to loom, with violent consequences.
Directed by Craig William Macneill and co-produced by Sevigny, Lizzie is an enthralling investigation of a dark slice of history that has fascinated the world ever since. It is a brooding tale of strained family relationships, an oppressive society and a secret, burgeoning romance, delivering rich slow-burn tension and a gut-punching conclusion.
