Pakistan-born Chicago Uber driver Kumail (Kumail Nanjiani) is struggling to get his career as a comedian off the ground when he meets grad student Emily (Zoe Kazan) and the two immediately fall for one another. However, their blossoming relationship soon comes under threat from Kumail’s traditional parents, who want to arrange a Pakistani bride for their son. When Emily suddenly becomes ill and falls into a coma, Kumail strikes up an unlikely bond with her concerned parents. Based on Kumail Nanjiani’s real life relationship, The Big Sick is a truly unique and remarkable story that is at once funny, intelligent and truly heartfelt.
