The life of pioneering Jewish American artist Eva Hesse was short and in many ways tragic: fleeing Nazi Germany, enduring her parents’ separation and mother’s suicide, surviving a turbulent relationship and falling ill in her early 30s. In the face of all her trouble, Hesse found solace in her art, creating distinctive pieces of work that propelled her to the forefront of the New York art world. Although her career spanned only a decade, her work lives on, and is celebrated today as ever before. Eva Hesse is the story of an exceptional artist, and an equally exceptional era, one that has changed the art world forever.
