Guests Attending Glasgow Film Festival 2016
Shirley Henderson And Kate Dickie To Attend Glasgow Film Festival
Glasgow Film Festival is delighted to announce additional guests attending the festival: multi-award-winning Scottish actors Shirley Henderson and Kate Dickie will walk the red carpet and attend post-screening discussions in support of the films Urban Hymn and Couple In A Hole respectively.
OTHER GUESTS ATTENDING THE FESTIVAL
The UK premiere of Urban Hymn
Friday 19 February, 2016 20.20, at GFT
Shirley Henderson gives one of the finest performances of her career as Kate, an experienced sociology lecturer who moves to the front line as a residential care worker in the aftermath of the London riots. Her genteel good intentions seem unlikely to cut much ice with the teenage residents, but belligerent, ungovernable seventeen year-old Jamie (Letitia Wright), eventually joins Kate’s choir. The unlikely, unpredictable bond between these two damaged individuals lies at the core of this heartrending, human story. Henderson, Wright, director Michael Caton-Jones (Rob Roy, This Boy’s Life) and co-star Isabella Laughland will all attend the screening, and will be available for interview and media call earlier in the day.
The Scottish premiere of Couple in a Hole
Thurs 25 Feb 2016, 18.00, at GFT
Deep in the middle of a French forest, an apparently normal and affluent Scottish couple live like savages, foraging for food and shunning modern conveniences. The mysteries of who they are and how they came to be there drive this powerful yet understated drama, starring Kate Dickie and Paul Higgins (The Thick Of It) who deliver performances that stagger with their authenticity and subtlety. The result is a haunting examination of loss and grief. Dickie and director Tom Geens will attend the screening and will be available for interview and media call earlier in the day.
The UK premiere of Traders
Fight Club meets Wall Street in this violent and blackly humorous Irish film dealing with ‘econocide’: the act of committing suicide as a result of bad economic conditions. Killian Scott (Ripper Street, ’71) and John Bradley (Game of Thrones) play two men who agree to fight to the death for each others’ life savings after being made redundant. Scott and directors Rachel Moriarty and Peter Murphy will attend the screening and be available for interview earlier in the day
The festival hopes to confirm further guests ahead of opening night.
