Glasgow Film Festival 2014: Concussion, UK Premiere, 1–2 March, Cineworld
ConcussionN/C 18+
Saturday 1–Sunday 2 March Cineworld, Renfrew Street
Abby, a fortysomething wealthy lesbian housewife is becoming increasingly disillusioned in her married life with high-powered New York divorce lawyer Kate. One day Abby is hit on the head by a baseball tossed by one of her two children, leading to the titular concussion and a surprising awakening. Shedding her inhibitions, Abby instigates a double-life as a high-price call girl for lonely female clients. This unusual, frank and often sensual film is the auspicious debut of director Stacie Passon, who draws startling performances from her cast; especially Robin Weigart, who plays Abby simultaneously as assured and energetic yet shut-down and contained. A remarkably unique film, Concussion offers a novel study of a woman shaking up her sedate suburban middle-class existence and is by turns hilarious, erotic and tender.
UK premiere.
The film will open across the UK on May 16 through Picturehouse Entertainment.
Stacie Passon’s debut feature CONCUSSION had a successful World Premiere at Sundance and won the Teddy Special Jury Prize in Berlin last year.
A modern day twist on ‘Belle de Jour’, CONCUSSION is a sexy, provocative, and passionate film that explores the consequences of a woman turning her fantasy life into reality.
Stacie Passon’s accomplished film features breakout performances from Robin Weigert (Deadwood) and Maggie Siff (Mad Men, Sons of Anarchy), and explores the secret desires and sexual re-awakenings of women with a mix of sensuality and poignancy that will appeal to men and women alike.
CONCUSSION will also screen at BFI Flare, the London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival on April 22 and 23.
