Wednesday 7th October, 8pm
City Halls, Recital Room 10

American singer-songwriter Pierce Pettis has, over the course of his long career, been a writer at Muscle Shoals Sound Studios in Alabama and a staff songwriter at Polygram and Universal Music Publishing in Nashville, recorded for Fast Folk Musical Magazine in New York, won the prestigious New Folk competition for songwriting at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas and received numerous other songwriting awards. His music draws on the humour and trials of daily life.

"Pierce Pettis doesn't write mere songs, he writes literature." (Sing Out).

"...one of the more vital and critically acclaimed folk stars of recent years." (Performing Songwriter)

Northern Irish singer-songwriter Brian Houston is a truly independent successful artist who has worked with Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Nanci Griffith and Robert Plant, amongst others. With a Belfast brogue, silky voice and some truly great songs, Brian Houston is one of life's born storytellers. He combines a great guitar style with a unique song-writing voice, not to mention wry touches of humour. He cares deeply about the subjects of his songs and perhaps even more deeply in how they are presented to the audience.

"One of Britain's great songwriters." (Bob Harris)

Pierce and Brian will be joined by special guest Yvonne Lyon, one of Scotland's best emerging singer-songwriters, who returns to the City Halls following her own sell-out concert in August. Drawing on her acoustic roots, her songs weave melodic grace and poetic storytelling, beautifully delivered with a voice that displays just the right balance between power and delicacy.
