Opening Hours

Mondays, closed, Tuesday - Friday 12 - 7.00pm, Saturday 10 - 6pm, Sundays 12 - 5pm

This enormous studio, with a team of staff qualified in different art disciplines, presents an opportunity to have a lot of fun and at the same time develop your creative skills.

Individuals, small parties, large parties, community groups and corporate outings can all be catered for. Already Kathrine Kerr and her team have opened their doors to such diverse events as Hen Parties, Birthday Parties (for adults and children)and Team Building Events. Both private and voluntary sector organisations are taking time out for staff development where colleagues get the opportunity to bond with 'Musical Potter's Wheel' making an interesting alternative to Musical Chairs.

The studio has teamed up with Glasgow University and staff are using Learning Works Vouchers to develop their ceramic painting skills or take some pottery classes.

This type of therapy can be of benefit to many people including those with special needs or suffering from particular medical conditions. These classes are supported by a resident artist and occupational therapist and Go Potty are happy to discuss your requirements - up to 20% discount for some groups.

When I called into Go Potty today Maryhill Integration Group were thoroughly enjoying themselves. There was a real mix of people from different countries with both adults and children absorbed in the creation of their individual pieces of ceramic art. You can chose from approximately two hundred different ceramic dishes with little fridge magnets at only £1.50 - mugs, cereal bowls and trinket boxes are also popular choices. Some people are keen to create a very special gift and Yorkhill Maternity Hospital has teamed up with Go Potty so that parents can imprint new babies' feet or hands onto ceramics. For every pound spent 10% goes back to the hospital.

Local schools are also taking advantage of Go Potty with some fascinating collaboration going on. One project about Ancient Greece involves children learning about the background and techniques used to make clay pots. Sounds like a sure fire way of bringing history to life.

Photo: go potty painting. There is a lovely calm atmosphere in Go Potty because everyone is so caught up in their own artistic endeavours - even the little ones. Anna and I took Holly there as part of her fifth birthday celebrations and we had a brilliant time. The resources are excellent, the staff are helpful and everything is very straightforward. We just turned up - no appointment needed - Holly chose a trinket box shaped like a horse and diligently set to work using a wide selection of paints and brushes. When you have finished, which in our case was a good hour or so later, you leave the piece to be fired and you can collect it a day or so later. Next time we are all planning to put our artistic talents to work.

So if you want to plan a party with a difference, organise your staff or occupy the kids the studio is worth checking out. Or should you be pottering around the Botanics when the rain comes on or if a creative urge comes upon you in Byres Road you can always pop into Go Potty Studio.

I had a go myself when I went along with Anna and Holly to try the potter's wheel. Rachel, our instructor was very patient and gave clear instructions and Anna obviously had the knack. She demonstrated impressive skills and in no time created a lovely little pot. I was not so smart and had the audacity to ask to try a different wheel but still to no avail. After four attempts I felt that I should leave it for another day but despite my lack of success I had great fun trying and may return to take up the potting challenge. Anna put me to shame by creating a lovely little bowl at her very first attempt.
