Recoat is holding their first fashion based exhibition, co-curated by Recoat volunteer Hanne Wyllie. High Fashion and Illustration come together in an exhibition featuring new work from eight illustrators and new fashion designs inspired by the classic couture looks.

Each artist will be creating work inspired by the designs of seven internationally renowned fashion houses - Chanel, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Zac Posen, Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen and Christian Dior.

The Front Row has an unusual concept, where art exhibition meets museum exhibit. Each artist's work will be accompanied by a written history of the designer they are representing, allowing visitors to learn about the history and evolution of fashion whilst enjoying amazing artwork.

Photo: micca. Recoat are proud to showcase work from a newly graduated illustrator from Glasgow School of Art, Caroline Mooney. Her humorous imagery and hand rendered text is inspired by the Austrian painter Egon Schiele. Central Saint Martins graduate, Mhari McMullan, will be exhibiting work which combines traditional and modern techniques to create evocative, delicate and chic illustrations. Katy Smail, the artist and fashion writer, will be allowing us a glimpse into her illustrated world, inhabited by lonely girls in pretty dresses and lovers tumbling from ghost stories, perfectly portraying the romance of fashion.

This exhibition will also see work from international artists, Rebecca Eskilsson, an illustrator based in Gothenburg, will be sending work featuring images of strong, colourful and edgy women and from Japan, artist Micca Okada, will be exhibiting her delicate watercolour images.

Bernie Reid and David Bray return to the Recoat Gallery for their 13th exhibition. Bernie Reid is an internationally recognized artist, best known for his stencil work, who has worked extensively in the fashion industry. Past clients include Stella McCartney, Dazed and Confused, and Wallpaper. David Bray is a London based illustrator who has worked for Elle, Puma and Harvey Nicholls. His work depicts beautifully rendered, glamorous women entangled in patterns, shapes and animals.

To bring the fashion theme full circle, emerging fashion designer, Claire Hamilton will exhibit brand new creations inspired by the fashion houses featured in the exhibition.

Hanne Wyllie has nurtured an exhibition that departs from the recent graffiti based, masculine feeling shows at Recoat to a more feminine exhibition that celebrates fashion, design and the female form. But don't go to Recoat this month expecting pink and fluff, the illustrations will be vibrant, bold and daring!

The exhibition will run till the 9th of November.
