THE DIRT are a Glasgow-based threesome drawn from the punk country well that spawned Johnny Cash, The Violent Femmes, Green on Red and Uncle Tupelo. They sing of feral children, broken guitars, dead dogs, dark rivers and aching love.

THE DIRT formed after they found some old songs in the embers of a fire in the woods. They have played at the venerable Grand Ole Opry, King Tut's Wah Wah Hut and many other Scottish venues, have appeared at the West End, Leith, Organic Beats and Oxjam festivals and have recorded sessions for Sunny Govan Radio, Subcity and Dutch music project, Under the Influence (www.onderinvloed.com).

Their first EP, featuring the songs Built This Church, I Saw You, Flowers and a cover of The Carter Family's Diamonds in the Rough is available now. Plans are afoot for a debut album.

THE DIRT are:

Graeme Dirt on vocals, guitar, banjo and harmonica
Jen Dirt on vocals, percussion, squeezebox and melodica
Jo Dirt on piano and percussion

What folk are saying:

"A Cash/Carter-Cash for the 21st century, they sing of doomed incestuous love, local serial killers and creative uses for human remains. The simplicity of the arrangements belies a complex interplay between their constituent elements . . . The Dirt's songs have clearly been compressed, cut and polished to perfection." - Sean Welsh, Is This Music?

"Alt-country gone bad and it's also a pretty damn near perfect trip down the road to redemption. From the bleakly humorous subject matter of their songs to those country style harmonies, The Dirt proved to be an unexpected pleasure.' - Bluesbunny

"Probably Scotland's leading exponents of murder ballads" - Gavin Munro, Southpaw frontman

"Beautifully crafted songs about life, death, damnation and redemption" - West End Festival

"Scotland's answer to the Handsome Family" - Made in the Shade/The Skinny

"There would have to be something seriously wrong with your soul if their bone dry humour and dark harmonies don't get to you." - Bluesbunny

"A deeper voice than Johnny Cash on his death bed" - Perthshire Advertiser
