The waiting room for the Stranraer to Belfast ferry. Two old schoolfriends bump into each other. Jimmy Culver is an out of work actor on his way to the biggest audition of his life. Eddie Harrison is the captain of Celtic and one of the world’s most famous and controversial footballers. What happens next will change both their lives forever.
What the Animals Say was David’s first play. It was first produced at Oran Mor in 2009. His other plays include The End of Hope (Oran Mor, Glasgow); Everything Between Us – Meyer Whitworth Award, Stewart Parker Award (Tinderbox); Yes So I Said Yes (Ransom); Half a Glass of Water (Field Day); Most Favoured (Traverse/Oran Mor); Can’t Forget About You (Lyric, Belfast); Blood Wedding (adaptation) (Dundee Rep/Graeae); Cyprus Avenue – Irish Times Award for Best New Play, James Tait Black Prize for Drama (Royal Court/Abbey/Public Theater, New York); Ulster American – Scotsman Fringe First, Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award (Traverse Festival). David was Playwright-in-Residence at the Lyric, Belfast from 2011-12.
