In the final days of the Second World War, eight children who have escaped from the Gross-Rosen concentration camp find refuge in an abandoned palace. Hanka, also a former inmate, becomes their guardian. After the atrocities of the camp, the children slowly begin to regain what is left of their childhood. But their safety from horror is short-lived. Hounds released by the SS guards roam the forests around, hungry for blood and drawing ever closer.
