Up A Close at Websters Theatre
14 – 16 September, 2023
Websters Theatre, 416 Great Western Rd, Glasgow G4 9HZ
Up A Close is the story of Joanna and her life growing up in a Partick tenement flat
When her husband John goes missing Joanna looks back on her life living in a Partick tenement. From the school days with her best friend Anne-Marie Capaldi, through Saturday night parties with her Auntie Sandra, dancing to the sound of The Bay City Rollers, to doing battle with the teachers at her school.
The play is a nostalgic piece with humour and comic moments highlighting a Glasgow of the 70s. The days of the Steamie and the bathhouses. The backcourts of the tenements and stair heid rammies between neighbours. The Barras and “Up the dancing”
Following its first sell out run in 2019 Up A Close is presented by The Travelling Theatre Company.
Starring Sheila Grier (Brookside, Taggart, Still Game) and directed by Victor Kennedy (The Steamie, Shoaps) Up A Close is the must see Glasgow show this year.
