1913, Budapest, in the heart of Europe. Young Irisz Leiter arrives in the Hungarian capital with high hopes to work as a milliner at the legendary hat store that belonged to her late parents. But those hopes are quickly dashed when the new owner, Oszkár Brill, refuses to take Irisz on. While still hoping to remain in the city, Irisz is approached by a stranger who claims to be looking for her brother, Kálmán Leiter. But Irisz has no knowledge of having a brother, and sets about following Kálmán’s tracks, her only link to a lost past. Son of Saul writer/director László Nemes follows up his Oscar-winning debut with this period drama: part mystery, part thriller, all beautifully crafted and shot on film.
