15th July to 2nd September, 2023
Opening 12noon to 5pm Wednesday to Saturday.
Thomas McGoran
95 years young, born in Ayr 1927
Tom’s family moved to Glasgow in 1931, to a room and kitchen flat, in a 3 storey tenement. One of nine children, Tom’s childhood days were to become the inspiration for the paintings you see in the exhibition.
He left school at the age of 14 to become a projectionist, then served with the Royal Air Force for 3 years. On return to civilian life, TV was killing off cinemas, so Tom joined British Railways as a guard and stayed for 32 years, he retired in 1988 as a Chief Inspector.
He took to oil painting with no formal training and taught himself and these paintings are the result.
