Following its premiere at the 2024 Venice Film Festival, we’re delighted to screen the new 4K restoration of Howard Hawks’ dazzling screwball comedy for a week at GFT.
Unprincipled editor Walter Burns (Cary Grant) convinces Hildy Johnson (Rosalind Russell) — his ex-wife and star reporter — to take on one last assignment before retiring from the newspaper business to settle down with a mild-mannered insurance salesman. Hildy is tasked with interviewing a man placed on death row for murder and finds herself increasingly drawn into uncovering the truth, whilst Walter tries everything he can to keep her on the job and in his life.
