family fun day govan stones

See live archaeology in Govan Old’s ancient graveyard, and stone carving & pottery demos and much more!

The line-up keeps getting stronger for an Archaeology Fun Day and calling out to all budding artists! On Saturday 30th of May artist John Russell leads a special Urban Sketch Workshop at Govan Old. No previous experience necessary. Fun and friendly atmosphere with all drawing materials provided.

Other activities:

*Visit a live archaeological dig and meet the archaeologists undertaking work in Govan’s 1500 year old graveyard
• Clamour of Rooks will be performing on the lute 11:30 -1:30(ish)
• Stef Baxter pottery will be making Raku pottery with an outdoor firing demonstration @ 1:30pm
•At 2pm Professor Stephen Driscoll will give a special FREE guided tour of the graveyard, excavations and outline the plans for archaeological fieldwork during 2026 and 2027
• TCV Scotland will be running a nature scavenger hunt and teaching us about biodiversity
• Artist Barry Grove is back and will be showing us how the Govan Stones were carved, armed with his magic chisel!
• Young people can get their model-making jam on with the return of our Lego Building Competition.
