Glasgow City Heritage Trust and Friends of Southern Necropolis invite you to a meander around the Gorbals Southern Necropolis with the Happy Reaper (aka Colin Mackie).
Opened in 1840, the Southern Necropolis was promoted as an affordable and respectable place of burial. It is the final resting place of approximately 250,000 people, including notable figures who helped shape Glasgow’s cultural and historical identity, such as Sir Thomas Lipton, Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson, and the legendary White Lady monument- walk round her three times or she might turn you to stone!
