Celtic Connections 2023: Kim Edgar, Launch of Consequences Album
Thursday 2 February, 2023
Saint Luke’s, 17 Bain Street, Glasgow G40 2JZ
Join acclaimed Edinburgh-based songwriter Kim Edgar and a host of talented songwriters from Scotland and further afield to celebrate the launch of her fifth studio album, CONSEQUENCES.
Fuelled by a passion for social justice, folklore, and feminism, Kim shapes keenly observed details of people’s lives into “imaginatively and beautifully crafted songs” (Maverick) that reach out and touch listeners. Emotion and connection are at the heart of this pianist and songwriter’s work: through observed and lived experiences, Kim ponders what it is to be human, creating stories told with honesty and empathy that open hearts, minds and discussions. Her intensity and intimacy in performance have also attracted glowing reviews.
This full-length show features songs that Kim has written collaboratively with other songwriters she admires during a year-long songwriting collaboration project supported by Creative Scotland, focused on the personal, social and environmental impact of human behaviour, alongside thematically linked songs from Kim’s collaborators, accompanied by a full house band: Mattie Foulds (drums), Kevin McGuire (bass), Steven Polwart (guitars), Mikey Owers (brass, vocals) and Matt Gough (trumpet). Kim will be joined by special guests Horse McDonald, Boo Hewerdine, J-P Piirainen (Finland), Goodnight Louisa, Sandra LeCouteur (Canada), Dan Bettridge (Wales), James Grant and Louis Abbott.
