SOLD OUT
World Premiere of Scots-made Muhammad Ali feature film Cassius X: Becoming Ali
Friday 10 March, 2023 1.15 p.m.
There was nobody like Muhammad Ali. His speed and grace dazzled in the ring. His charisma and intelligence lit up every chat show skirmish. Muta ‘Ali’s fascinating documentary focuses on the years between 1959 and 1964 as a lean, confident teenager embarked on a journey that saw him become heavyweight champion of the world. It was also the start of a spiritual quest that saw him become a Muslim. Stunning archive footage is matched by commentary from those who knew him including girlfriend Dee Dee Sharp and Malcolm X’s daughter Attalah Shabazz.
The festival will host director Muta’Ali and writer Stuart Cosgrove at a red-carpet premiere Q&A event on Thursday, 9th March at 6pm at Glasgow Film Theatre (SOLD OUT)
The two-hour feature length documentary will explore the transformation of Cassius Clay into international boxing icon and activist, Muhammad Ali, as he risks everything for his new religion while approaching the biggest fight of his life.
Director Muta’Ali said:
