The Magnificent Ambersons + introduction
Sunday 9 November, 2025 at 1.40 p.m.
Orson Welles’ second feature chronicles the fall of a wealthy Indianapolis family during the American industrialisation boom of the early 20th century. Isabel Amberson’s spoiled son stands in the way of both her personal happiness and the advancement of their family fortune. Intricate camerawork and expressive mise-en-scène chart the demise of the family, which is mirrored in the declining state of Ambersons’ mansion, once the pride of their town.
This special screening includes an introduction from author, critic and film historian Pamela Hutchinson.
Screening as part of Too Much: Melodrama on Film.
