Caravaggio at GFT
Sunday 27 April, 2025 at 7.30 p.m.
Coinciding with our Derek Jarman: Modern Nature on Film season, programmed in collaboration with The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, the April edition of Queer Cinema Sundays brings a rare chance to enjoy Jarman’s Caravaggio on the big screen, with an introduction by Ilia Ryzhenko, Film Hub Scotland Manager.
Starring Tilda Swinton in her first film role, Caravaggio is a retelling of the life of the celebrated 17th-century Baroque painter Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio through his brilliant, nearly blasphemous paintings and his flirtations with the underworld.
The Hunterian, University of Glasgow, is currently presenting an exhibition focused on Jarman’s work in painting, film, queer activism and writing. Digging in Another Time: Derek Jarman’s Modern Nature is at Hunterian Art Gallery until 4 May 2025.
