The Dead Don’t Hurt at GFT
7 – 20 June, 2024
Mortensen wrote, directed and stars in this original take on the classic Western, in a story centred on the adventurous life of fiercely independent Vivienne Le Coudy (Vicky Krieps).
In a frontier town run by corrupt forces, fiercely independent Vivienne embarks on a relationship with the passionate, hard-working Holger Olsen (Viggo Mortensen), leading to danger for them both. With the threat of the Civil War looming, their future becomes uncertain when Holger decides to fight for the Union, leaving Vivienne on her own to face the dangerous threats of the corrupt mayor (Danny Huston), the power-hungry ranch owner (Garret Dillahunt) and the rancher’s violent son (Solly McLeod). A powerful story of love and survival that is both epic and intimate.
In English, French and Spanish with English subtitles.

If you can’t get enough of Viggo Mortensen, you can also revisit the role that he remains best-known and loved for with screenings of the extended editions of The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 June. Buy tickets
