This pair of screenings is inspired by film critic Anahit Behrooz’s new book BFFs, which explores female friendship as a site of radical intimacy via the cultural touchstones around us. Anahit will join us for screenings of Agnes Varda’s One Sings, the Other Doesn’t and Julie Dash’s Daughters of the Dust – both key works by influential female directors.
About BFFs
BFFs is an examination of the power of female friendship, not as something lesser, but as a site of radical intimacy, as told through the cultural touchstones around us. From coming-of-age tales through physical intimacy and discovering personhood to break ups and parting of ways, BFFs considers the vast significance of our friendships through the likes of Frances Ha, Booksmart, The Virgin Suicides and more.
