Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles at GFT
Sunday 8 January, 2023 – 5.45 p.m.
Glasgow Film Theatre, 12 Rose Street, Glasgow G3 6RB
A rare chance to see Chantal Akerman‘s landmark feminist epic, recently voted the number one film of all time by Sight and Sound magazine.
This acutely observed drama stars the incredible Delphine Seyrig as Jeanne, a widow for six years, who maintains a strict household routine: cooking, cleaning, shopping and entertaining a gentleman caller each afternoon to support herself and her teenage son. Akerman captures the precise, minute details of her unvarying life over three days, conveying the facade she has carefully created, the stultifying boredom she feels and the growing pressure for something to change.
