Reel Roots: Windrush at GFT
18 – 26 June, 2022
How lucky we are that steelpans came to Britain’s streets. That reggae and punk collided, and dancehall and dub resound. That society, too, has a richer sound, composed of more numerous notes.
Reel Roots: Windrush is a spotlight on Black people of Caribbean heritage who have resided in the UK since Windrush, and on the fruits of their culture in cinema. This touring programme welcomes these communities to see themselves on screen, and others to hear their many stories.
Curated by The New Black Film Collective, this is the first of a two-part series exploring Blackness in Britain. It will be followed by Reel Roots: Black History Month, September – October 2022.
