Mozart at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow

A performance for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine appeal

A performance of Mozart’s Requiem (Süssmayr Edition) takes place on Saturday March 26^th, 7.30pm at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow. Funds from tickets and donations will go to the Red Cross Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

About the Performance

Musicians from The Orchestra of Scottish Opera and McOpera have been inspired to put on this fundraising event by the work of the many humanitarians who are so selflessly helping the people of Ukraine flee their country in this time of war.

Violinist and Leader Katie Hull explains: “Mozart’s Requiem is a fitting work to reflect our cause to do what we can to raise funds for the humanitarian crisis that plagues Ukraine. Mozart passed away before he completed his Requiem, leaving that task to others – when we are faced with tragedy, everything and everyone else must continue, by imperfectly piecing together what is left. We invite everyone to come and join us in Glasgow’s West End to reflect in the music and give generously to our cause.”

The four soloists for the evening are Scottish Opera Emerging Artist soprano Catriona Hewiston , mezzo-soprano Sioned Gwen Davis , tenorJamie MacDougall and bass John Molloy all of whom have featured in recent highly praised productions with Scottish Opera including Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Verdi’s Falstaff. Scottish Opera Head of Music Derek Clark takes to the podium to direct the performance, with the chorus being made up of professional singers from across Scotland, including regular members of Scottish Opera choruses and talented singers from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and University of St Andrews / St Andrews Madrigal Group.

The performers and organisers have all generously provided their time and talent and they are grateful to the people of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral who have provided the venue for free. All proceeds raised will go direct to the people of Ukraine, via the Red Cross.

Tickets are by donation via Eventbrite, suggested minimum price of £15
