C’mon, C’mon at Glasgow Film Theatre
3 – 16 December, 2021
Johnny (Joaquin Phoenix) and his young nephew (Woody Norman) forge a tenuous but transformational relationship when they are unexpectedly thrown together in this delicate and deeply moving story about the connections between adults and children, the past and the future, from writer-director Mike Mills.
‘There’s a tough balance to strike with this kind of emotional, sensitive drama. Too much overstatement can really kill any subtlety, which leads to triteness that rings hollow. But writer/director Mike Mills plays it just right – touching on parenthood, grief, marriage, sibling relationships and more with lightness and specificity. It really pierced my heart, with moments that resonated with my own experience of living life. It’s all centred on – and depends on – Joaquin Phoenix at his best; crumpled and beautifully human.’ – Paul Gallagher, GFT Programme Manager
A touching story about how our relationships can provide solace and personal growth – whether we’re in our formative years or decades removed from them. ★★★★
