Stephen Watt – Poet in Residence Dumbarton Football Club

Amongst his many other achievements, Stephen Watt has been Dumbarton FC’s Poet-in-Residence since 2016. This special Book Week Scotland Event by Scottish Writers Centre is supported by the Scottish Book Trust.
Stephen will discuss the origins of this residency and how it works for both poet and club with Christie Williamson, Co-chair or Scottish Writers’ Centre.
Stephen Watt has been Dumbarton FC’s Poet-in-Residence since 2016. Author of five poetry collections, Stephen was recognised as the first “crime poet” to perform at Bloody Scotland Crime Writing Festival, appointed the inaugural Poet-in-Chief for the Hampden Collection in 2018, and the Makar for the Federation of Writers (Scotland) in 2019. He has edited two punk poetry collections on behalf of The Joe Strummer Foundation and Buzzcocks, and has won titles including Poetry Rivals Slam Champion, the Tartan Treasures award, and the StAnza International Digital Poetry Slam award. In October 2021, he was appointed as Poetry Editor for Nutmeg football periodical. Stephen’s poetry has been included in various anthologies including Ten Writers Telling Lies.
