Federico Fellini’s exquisite tale of celebrity casts an adoring yet critical eye towards post-war Rome. Set over seven decadent days, the film follows Marcello Mastroianni’s philandering journalist, pursuing a happiness that’s always just out of reach.

Subject to widespread censorship for its then scandalous sexual frankness and perceived by the Catholic Church as blasphemous, the film was condemned by the Vatican in 1960 and remained banned in Spain until the death of Franco in 1975.

Back in cinemas in a 4K restoration, the release marks the film’s 60th anniversary and screens as part of the official 2020 celebrations for the centenary of Federico Fellini (organised by Luce Cinecittà, Cineteca di Bologna and Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia).
