The Wound, Glasgow Film Theatre
18 – 21 May, 2018
South Africa’s official entry to the 2018 Academy Awards for best foreign language film, The Wound is a provocative study of masculinity. Xolani, a lonely, closeted factory worker joins the men of his community in the mountains of the Eastern Cape to initiate a group of teenage boys into manhood. When a defiant initiate from the city discovers his best-kept secret, Xolani’s entire existence begins to unravel. John Trengove’s thrilling drama of sexual identity in South Africa is a unique cinematic coming-of-age tale.
