God’s Own Country, GFT, 1 – 14 September, 2017

God’s Own Country is the captivating debut feature from writer/director Francis Lee, selected to open Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017. In rural Yorkshire, Johnny (Josh O’Connor) works long hours on his family’s remote farm. He numbs the daily frustration with binge-drinking and casual sex. When a Romanian migrant worker (Alec Secareanu) arrives to take up temporary work on the farm, Johnny finds himself having to deal with emotions he has never felt before. This poignant, finely crafted British drama explores xenophobia head-on and features a host of standout performances. Content note: contains strong sex.
Specially commissioned programme notes will be available.
