West Dunbartonshire Libraries Festival of Words
BOOKED! 2017 is West Dunbartonshire Libraries annual literature festival. It will run over two weeks from 8 May until 20 May 2017 . The festival includes a vibrant and diverse programme of talks and events by leading authors in local libraries throughout Dunbartonshire.
With many highlights including:
Events in every High School. The launch of the Comic Invention exhibition with a talk from Dr. Mel Gibson. one of Britain’s leading academics on comics and graphic novels,
You will find a wide range of events with authors, poets, and singer-songwriters and this year’s line-up has something for everyone.
Booked! is delighted to welcome:
Glasgow Girl Amal Azzudin, who will provide and inspiring opening to the festival at the Alastair Pearson Lecture. Amal is mbassador for The Scottish Refugee Council, and last year was named as a young outstanding woman of Scotland by both the Young Women’s Movement and the Saltire Society. Emerging novelists Gail Honeyman and Polly Clark will be talking about their debut novels, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and Larchfield. Wednesday, 10 May, 7.30 p.m. Alexandria Library, Gilmour St, Alexandria G83 0DA
Sports journalist, Hugh Keevins will be chairing a panel featuring Old Firm legends Derek Johnstone and Murdo MacLeod. Thursday, 11 May, 7.30 p.m. Faifley Library, Edinbarnet Campus, Craigpark St, Clydebank G81 5BS
Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson will be talking with Sunday Herald editor, Neil Mackay Friday, 12 May, 7.30 p.m. Dumbarton Library, Strathleven Pl, Dumbarton G82 1BD
Award winning journalist Chitra Ramaswamy – talking about her amazing book ‘Expecting – the inner life of pregnancy’ Wednesday, 17 May, 7.30p.m. Balloch Library, Carrochan Rd, Balloch G83 8BW

Friday night Cabaret features renowned singer-songwriter Roddy Hart as well as local star, Sophie Rogers – Kevin P Gilday comperes and performs accompanied by outstanding performance poets, Cat Hepburn and Leyla Josephine.
