Minoo Dinshaw & Andrew Hankinson – The Complexities of Biography
Two authors who have written gripping and powerful portrayals of seemingly difficult biographical subjects… Outlandish Knight, Minoo Dinshaw’s biography of Steven Runciman, tells of the life of a man who was a great historian of the Crusades and Byzantium, Grand Orator of the Orthodox Church, a member of the Order of Whirling Dervishes, Greek Astronomer Royal and Laird of Eigg. Andrew Hankinson’s You Could Do Something Amazing with Your Life [You Are Raoul Moat] re-tells, using his own words, the story of the fugitive Geordie bodybuilder-mechanic who became notorious when, after killing his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, shooting her in the stomach, and blinding a policeman, he disappeared into the woods of Northumberland. This lead to a media storm and eventually, cornered by the police, Moat shot himself.
