Scottish screenwriter Paul Laverty (I, Daniel Blake) and Madrid-born director Icíar Bollaín follow up their award-winner Even the Rain with this beautifully tender comedy/drama road movie. Alma (Anna Castillo), a spirited Spanish farmer, sets out on a journey to reclaim her grandfather’s favourite olive tree, which was uprooted and sold
to a German company 10 years earlier. Her quixotic quest reflects a desire common to many: to undo the damage inflicted by Spain’s boom-and-bust economy on the country’s landscape and its communities.
