Intentions in Action: Second Stop
Thu 1 September — Mon 31 October 2016
In 1962, Gene Bernofsky, Jo Ann Bernofsky and Clark Richert developed a concept they called Drop Art, making art a spontaneous part of everyday life in the face of a society they saw as increasingly materialistic and war-mongering. Three years later, they purchased a piece of land near Trinidad, Colorado and founded Drop City: a community that celebrated creative work, attracting artists, writers and inventors.
This documentary tells a story of whimsical innovation and the drive to create a new civilization on the scrapheap of a wasteful society: how an artists community became an icon for a global counterculture.
