Sunder Cinema presents Valley Girl.
A teen exploitation film directed by Martha Coolidge that sees the quintessential Valley girl Julie Richman (Deborah Foreman) having to make the choice between her boring jock boyfriend Tommy (Michael Bowen) and the new troublesome punk Randy (Nicolas Cage). However with the pressures of high school, society and her naive friends will she be able to take a step into the unknown?
Valley Girl was one of the first pieces of media that helped commercialise the Valley girl scene with its focus on vapid materialism, popularity and the infamous Valleyspeak with catchphrases such as ‘tripendicular’ and ‘like, for sure’. This film was also the breakthrough role for Nicolas Cage and the first, in which he is credited as Cage instead of Coppola.
This film is being shown as part of Scalarama 2016.
