Timothy, an aspiring actor and John, the captain of the football team, fell in love as teenagers at an all-boys high school in Melbourne in the 1970s. Their 15-year romance endured throughout their lives despite many challenges and prejudices and the pair went on to become champions of gay rights. Adapted from Timothy Conigrave’s cult classic memoir of the same name, Holding the Man is a sensitive and poignant tale of love and loss.
