GFT
The pressures of austerity are universal, and used to great effect in in this quietly compelling human drama about Nadezhda, a 30-something schoolteacher under pressure because of debt.
With the bank due to auction her house she must beg and borrow money at all costs, leading to moments of real suspense punctuated by an unexpected dash of dark humour. With comparisons to Loach and the Dardennes, this film festival favourite has won numerous awards and the hearts of audiences everywhere.
