A homage to the French New Wave, this Mexican road movie is the debut feature from director Alonso Ruizpalacio. The year is 1999, and young troublemaker Tomas finds himself under the care of his brother Sombra and roommate Santos in Mexico City. Due to National University strikes, the two students have been whiling away their days in a state of inertia. However, Tomas’ arrival ignites a series of events which culminate in a road-trip to find the brothers’ childhood hero: legendary musician Epigmeneo Cruz. Winner of Best First Feature at Berlin, this is both a coming-of-age story, and a portrait of a country in flux.
