Friday 16–Thursday 29 October, 2015
The first English-language film by Dogtooth director Yorgos Lanthimos, The Lobster brings an all-star cast but retains the obscure explorations of humanity seen in the director’s previous work. Set in a dystopian future where single people are forced to The Hotel and must find a romantic partner in 45 days or else they are transformed into beasts. Starring Colin Farrell as the recently divorced sad-sack David, who is checked into the hotel and decides on his beast of choice (the titular crustacean), Lanthimos delivers an astute and bizarre dating satire that is like nothing you have seen before.
The 17.40 screening on Monday 19 October will be introduced by Alistair Harkness as part of our Contemporary Cinema Course
