Writer/director Ramin Bahrani (Goodbye Solo, Chop Shop) has a reputation for creating gripping character-based dramas, and 99 Homes continues his winning streak. There is a ‘ripped from the headlines’ quality to this tale of a young man (Andrew Garfield) who is evicted from his home by a mercenary real estate broker (Michael Shannon), then ends up having to work for the same broker to provide a home for his mother (Laura Dern) and young son. Powerful performances and tense drama make this a must-see.
