Ken Loach’s The Navigators is the powerful story of a group of railway track workers at the time of the privatisation of British Rail. As the profound effects of privatisation and the grave repercussions for the safety of the rail system become apparent, the solidarity of the men, previously unified by a sense of community and pride in a working tradition, begins to crumble.
This screening has been organised by the GMB Glasgow General Apex Branch to mark International Workers Memorial Day and as part of Glasgow’s May Day activities.
The film will be followed by a short discussion with local trade unionists on the issues raised in the film.
