The feature length directorial debut of Mad Men star John Slattery, this gritty blue-collar crime drama shows an assured eye for tone and mood. A darkly comic drama that centres on the hapless Mickey Scarpato (Philip Seymour Hoffman, in one of his final roles), who finds himself at odds with local columnist Richard Shelburn (a downtrodden Richard Jenkins) after the ‘accidental’ death of his crazy stepson. With an all-star cast (also featuring Christina Hendricks and John Turturro) and a joyously dark and twisting narrative, this film announces Slattery as a new directorial presence to be reckoned with.
