A Century of Chinese Cinema
Celebrated director Wong Kar Wai’s beautiful, sumptuous ode to heartbreak and forbidden love is both understated and eye-popping in its visuals and themes. Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung play Mrs Chan and Mr Chow, two neighbouring tenants in a sleepy 1960s Hong Kong, who find solace in one another when they are forced to face the realisation that their respective partners are having an adulterous affair. With Wong Kar-Wai’s uniquely captivating eye for detail, performance and soundtrack, this captivating film launched at Cannes Film Festival 2000 to incredible acclaim and a best actor award for Tony Leung.
