Glasgow Gigs: Live at The Star Club, March 2014
All gigs are held in The Admiral Bar, Waterloo Street, Glasgow G2 7DA and start at 8.00pm
Blueflint
4th March
£10
The sound of Blueflint is defined by the sublime close harmonies of Deborah Arnott and Clare Neilson whose voices, both ethereal and warm, interweave in ballads and songs of eerie melancholy and heartfelt charm. The Edinburgh-based five-piece band intertwine banjos, fiddle, double-bass and drums to accompany the singers in beautifully-crafted songs, swooping easily from the dark underbelly of folk to buoyant Americana-tinged ballads. Blueflint successfully thwart attempts at musical pigeonholing; their fresh and original sound refuses to sit squarely in any one genre, bringing an unexpected twist to the banjo sound and gaining them fans from across the musical spectrum.
Alan Reid and Rob van Sante
11th March
£8
Alan Reid & Rob van Sante present an evening of both old and new music, featuring Alan’s compositions, Battlefield Band favourites and Rob’s own songs. Their show combines the solid open tuned guitar style of Rob, the keyboard, guitar and accordion of Alan and the fine harmony singing of both, ensuring an excellent night’s entertainment.
Archie Fisher
18th March
£9
Archie is a seminal figure in the Scottish folk revival and one of Scotland’s finest songwriters and performers. His interpretations of traditional songs, his own compositions and the material of his fellow contemporary songwriters are fully endorsed by those who know and care.
