Celtic Music Radio
What's On at Celtic Music Radio This Week
Review - outside broadcase OranMor
Celtic Music Radio is a community radio station, broadcasting on 1530AM Medium Wave. The station focuses on traditional and contemporary celtic/scottish/folk-influenced music, and broadcast 24x7 to the greater Glasgow area. The radio station attracts fans from around the globe and you can also listen in online.
The studios are in the city centre in the Livingstone Tower, University of Strathclyde; the transmitter is at Shieldhall, and there's a pretty strong signal throughout the west end.
It's a not-for-profit organisation, which aims to benefit a ‘community of interest’ supporting singer-songwriters and the indigenous arts and culture. Celtic Music Radio offers an important platform for local musicians to showcase their work and outside broadcasts are increasingly covering important events in the city such as Celtic Connections.
The station depends on the skills and commitment of a team of dedicated volunteers to present and produce the programme.
Review: All day broadcast from OranMor, Saturday 2nd May

Review: Celtic Music Radio at OranMor - 2nd May, 2009
We had an enjoyable wee jaunt along to OranMor where Celtic Music Radio set up studio as part of the May Holiday celebrations. It was interesting to hear Alex Jenkins chat to the performers and also hear their music.
I was delighted to meet some of the rest of Celtic Music Radio's great team of presenters and producers, including Ross Macfadyen and Bruce Rodger and good to catch up with Bob McWilliams, whom I'd met at Celtic Music Radio headquarters when I was Ciaran Dorris' show - prior to being whisked off for a week-end on Dorris Island. :)
Jim (Jim Byrne acoustic alt country/folky blues had a great time chatting with Alex and playing some of his songs, including 'Down by the Wildwood', a collaborative venture with the wonderful Carol Kidd. We could hardly believe that Alex, who presents the Morning Mix programme of music Monday to Saturday on station, had not previously participated in a live broadcast as he was so completely at ease.
In fact the whole shebang was pretty impressive; given that broadcasting from OranMor was a new experience for the Celtic Music Radio guys, it was a huge success. There were a couple of minor technical hitches and Rena (Jim's mum) and I had a wee bit of bother hearing everything once the bar started to get busy but despite this we had a super time and the atmosphere was great.
Apart from Celtic Music Radio's guests, some of the West End glitterati were out in force and I had a wee blether with David Maclennan, producer of Play, Pie and Pint, Lunchtime Theatre at OranMor and Michael Dale, Director of the West End Festival.
The show continued with Ross McFadyen and we enjoyed his interview with Naomi Chapman, who treated us to some of her own songs. She had travelled all the way up from Galashhiels along with Craig Jeffrey, who bravely performed some of his songs from his new CD 'Don't Blow Away", despite having a very sore throat - still sounded super.
Listen to Some of the performers playing 'live': at the outside broadast from OranMor on 2nd May and 23rd May
