Ian R. Mitchell is to give the world launch of his latest book Mountain Bandit, at the Great Salt Lake Book Event in Utah in September, 2002.
It is the United Nations Year of the Mountainand the book event is marking this by featuring work by celebrated mountain writers. As a former winner of the Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature, and author of such classics as Mountain Days and Bothy Nightsand Scotland's Mountains before the Mountaineers Ian has been invited to Salt Lake City as a representative of Scottish mountain culture.
Ian, who recently appeared at the Banff International Mountain Literature Festival in Canada, is no stranger to Utah. He has twice been visiting Eccles Professor at Weber State University, lecturing and reading on Scottish mountain history. He has also written on Utah's wilderness; "We Gotta Ben Lomond in Utah" (Scots Magazine) and "Utah's Desert Canyons" (Great Outdoors).
This visit provides editors with the opportunity for interviews with Ian, or for pre-publication extracts from 'Mountain Bandit', as well as opportunities for commissions; Ian will be exploring Utah's Rocky Mountains in the weeks before the Book Event.
