Nine days filled with free events in Glasgow's cultural quarter including street arts, dance, live music, markets, fashion and design, comedy, family events, tours, heritage walks, talks, food and drink and much more.

A vibrant, eclectic and exciting celebration with a fantastic programme of events including:

Highlights include:

Fragile *World Premiere*

A new work by Motionhouse, Conflux, Merchant City Festival and Gulbenkian and the University of Kent which will involve performers interacting with three JCBs. Fragile is a brand new, large-scale street performance involving world-class performers from Motionhouse, one of the UK's foremost dance theatre companies, as well as up to 25 local emerging performers, and will be directed by Kevin Finnan MBE, who was Choreographer and Movement Director for the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

FAMILY ZONE

Lots of events for children Monday 27 - Friday 31 July in Merchant Square.

MUSIC

At the Main Brunswick Stage and the ever popular Blackfriars Stage will be back featuring a line up of fantastic bands. Brunswick Street Live will incorporate a screen and licenced area in a large marquee. The Merchant Square Emerging Talent Stage will also present an exciting line up of new bands.

STREET ARTS

The 6th SURGE festival will feature an array of street theatre.

Exclusively for the Merchant City Festival 2015, the Brunswick Street Live Stage will be transformed into Glasgow's biggest free outdoor cinema with an exciting mix of film screenings to suit all ages.

The Merchant City Movie Club will have an eclectic collection of cult classics, retro comedies, Scottish favourites and will even bring back the magic of mornings at the movies with family & child friendly programming from 10am most days.

Merchant City Movie Club goers will also be able to eat delicious from the fabulous surrounding street food markets of the Merchant City Festival, enjoy hot & cold drinks served from the cafe bar and watch their favourite movies on the giant LED screen.

So come along and experience the movies in a unique urban environment in the heart of Glasgow's Merchant City.

Completely free for everyone!

Had a pleasant wander round the Merchant City. Great atmosphere  – all the usual super stalls – my favourite is the candle stall.  Unbelievably the sun came out.

Uprooted, Outdoor Theatre Production, Glasgow August 2015

A new outdoor production featuring an edible Living Stage! Touring venues, festivals & school playgrounds August 2015.

Uprooted is a unique theatre production for children and families, fusing live performance, music and living plants with innovative stage design, touring in August 2015.

Join us outdoors amongst a curious world of plants for an enchanting tale of kinship and home, told through music, movement, and multi-sensory storytelling. A waft of mint, a crunch of peas, a sprinkle of fresh herbs in a cup of tea…rediscover the joy of our natural world, and have a nibble on the home-grown set!

Uprooted features Scotland’s first Living Stage; a recyclable, biodegradable, edible set created from locally found, reclaimed materials. Part theatre show, part garden and part art installation, audiences will get the chance to interact by nibbling on plants, smelling herbs, and sampling drinks.
